Brief biographical information

Born on August 26, 1956 in the town of Khodoriv, ​​Zhydachiv district, Lviv region. During 1973-1978, he studied at the Department of Interior and Furniture Design of the Lviv State Institute of Applied and Decorative Arts (now the Lviv National Academy of Arts). Lecturers in the specialty – Myron Yatsiv, Karlo Zvirynskyi, Yuriy Skandakov, Mykhailo Kurylych, Volodymyr Ostrovskyi, Teofil Maksysko, Volodymyr Ovsiychuk, Stepan Koropchak, Danylo Dovboshynskyi.

From December 1979 to 1981 – Junior Research Fellow of the Lviv Museum of Ukrainian Art.

1981-1984 – Acting Head of the Department of Soviet Art of the Lviv Museum of Ukrainian Art.

1984-1994 – Junior Research Fellow of the Lviv Branch of the M.T. Rylsky Institute of Art History, Folklore and Ethnography of the Academy of Sciences of Ukraine (now the Institute of Ethnology of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine).

1994-2007 – Deputy Director of the Institute of Ethnology of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine.

2007-2021 – Vice-Rector for Scientific Work of the Lviv National Academy of Arts.

From September 2021 – Professor of the Department of Artistic Wood of the Lviv National Academy of Arts.

Scientific activities

The main area of ​​scientific interests is Ukrainian fine art of the 20th-21st centuries. Author of over 800 scientific and popular science publications, including a number of author’s monographs, albums. Creative activities

Artist, works in the field of easel painting and graphics, graphic design. Participant of art exhibitions, including individual ones (easel works in the techniques of oil, acrylic painting, gouache, drawing with markers and felt-tip pens), art photography. Personal exhibitions in Lviv (1981, 1989, 1996, 1997, 2005, 2009, 2015, 2020, 2024), Rivne (2013, 2019, 2023), Drohobych (2015, 2024), Kramatorsk (2015), Druzhkivka, Bakhmut, Kyiv, Odessa (2016), Lutsk (2020), Kolomyia (2022), Ivano-Frankivsk (2023), in Poland (Lodz, 2015, 2019; Poznań, 2019, 2023), in Canada (Toronto, 2017). Member of the International Jury of the exhibition-triennale of contemporary painting (“Międzynarodowe Triennale Malarstwa Regionu Karpat Srebrny Czworokąt”) in Przemyśl (Poland), 2015, 2018, 2021, 2024, curator of the exhibition of works by Lviv painters in China (Ganzhou, 2011), other exhibitions in Lviv and Przemyśl (Poland). The works are kept in private collections in Ukraine, Poland, Germany, Canada, the USA, China.
